“Actually my limited vocabulary doesn’t permit me to express how proud I am of the players for winning. I’m proud of everyone who played, and the ones who didn’t because they all contributed something to the preparation. ” —Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.
“Before the game, I felt there were some things we had to do to keep from losing. One, we had to have a good kicking game. Two, the defense had to keep Auburn from getting anything cheap. Then, we had to control the football and put some points on the board. That’s what happened. Our kicking game was excellent. The defense took away those things Auburn has been getting on everybody, including us last year. And the offense did put some points on the board and keep the football.”
—Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant
With the help of John Hannah (#73), Johnny Musso (#22), the “Italian Stallion,’” ran the ball in for his second touchdown of the game.
