Rebirth in the Swamp
The list of the teams that had beaten Spurrier and the Florida Gators in "The Swamp" was short. In Gainesville on October 2, 1999, over 85,000 watched Alabama as they added their name to that list in one of the most exciting games in recent Alabama football history. The entire game was a battle and regulation ended in a draw. In overtime, Bama called on Shaun Alexander, the outstanding senior running back. Chris Samuels and the Tide offensive line opened a hole in the Florida defensive line and Alexander wove his way for twenty yards into the end zone.
